Yes, get winter tires. I live in Vancouver, it snows here a couple of times a year. Winter tires are far better in the rain and in temperatures less than 45F. It's like night and day when I make the change after thanksgiving. And the entire setup cost me less than $500 for my Subaru.

Please, everyone, if the temperature gets below 40F/7C where you live just get some winter tires. Please. I beg you. It will save you money.
