It’s my understanding that a dealership stands to make a lot more on service versus what they make on the sale, so I would think that most dealerships would be happy to have your business even if you did not buy you car from them. I would also venture a guess that if you are a long time service customer that when it…
Someone needs to crosspost to ford-trucks.com if it has not already been done.
He hunted ducks or something, we joked that they were a warning to birds that might want to crap on his car
I had Firehawks on my SVX, nice and sticky!
I feel ya, I’ve been stuck in traffic before, studying the flow of traffic and the opacity of the bushes on the side of the freeway and calculating the odds of being able to dart out of my car, drop a deuce, and get back in before traffic starts moving again :-P
I love how the license plate letters are “BAH” like “BAH, breakdowns? We’ve got this!
Nice thing about these, along with the 4WD Aerostar and the 4WD Safari/Astro, is they shared components with trucks/SUVs (B series trucks, Ranger/Explorer, and S10/S10 Blazer respectively) and modding them isn’t terribly hard, I’ve seen 4WD Aerostars with a proper 4WD Tcase out of a Ranger swapped in (The Aerostar 4WD…
I’d love to get my hands on one of the unicorn 4WD first generation MPV with a manual transmission, they had actual dual range 4WD versus the single range you got with the slushbox, but they are quite rare.
Oddly enough, the SuperTech oil is actually quite good, at least it used to be (it’s possible it’s changed since I read the report about 12 years ago that rated it pretty high especially for conventional oil)
Top three that come to mind:
my GL-10 had a trip computer that would read mileage in reverse, as would the speedometer, it threw me because the first few tanks of fuel I noticed that the trip meter in the trip computer (The fuel gauge didn’t work so I used the “distance to empty” on the trip computer) would read a few tenths higher than the…
It might be NP for a car that old with pretty much nonexistent rust (other than the spare tire well, but considering what a lot of cars 10 years newer than this look like in the rust belt...) in Illinois but here in the PNW it’s more like 3-4k tops, reluctant CP.
I used to have that exact car! I also had a 86 GL-10 turbo sedan that had a similar dash, except the tach was just a readout of RPM, and the boost gauge was just a “turbo” light with a spinning turbo that would light up (I also had an 87 GL turbo wagon with an analog dash, it just had a picture of a turbo with a light…
I think back then either the mechanical odometer was a requirement, or they didn’t have the non-volatile memory to store the mileage, I had an 83 Subaru GL-10 that had the digital dash and it was the same way.
Hunt this guy down, needs to be build of the week! Totally love your articles Stef :-)
The lazy engineer in me says make it a hybrid of sorts and just kick the ICE in where it’d be needed >5,000 RPM, below that use the electric motor (Maybe kick the ICE in to charge the battery...), or a step further and give it normal/track modes. Normal mode it acts like an EV and fires up the engine to charge the…
Guess I should have read the damn thread better, he bought it without the top/frame installed.
Guy here in Portland bought a Cabriolet with a shredded top, ended up removing the top mechanism completely and installing a barbecue in the back, it’s dubbed the “Cabby-Q” https://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4492336-Introducing-CabbyQ Might be a good candidate for Stef’s Build Of The Week! I haven’t seen it…
I don’t get why this isn’t at least available with all wheel drive, people are probably going to be cross shopping this with Crosstreks and Rav4s
