Annihilation is one of the best films I’ve ever seen, and it’ll be a fantastic year for films if it doesn’t end up as my favorite of 2018. Mildly surprised it isn’t on here.

Black Panther was a hype-fest. I get; “hooray for what is represents.” But a good movie? It wasn’t a good movie just like Wonder Woman objectively wasn’t.
When making a super pretentious music list, the rules state that you must fill it with very esoteric artists but throw in a couple of respected household names to balance.
I adore Through Donkey Jaw but it’s a very weird, low-fi affair
Yep. The rhythm of Calling Paul the Suffering puts me in such a good mood. I’ve got to give their earlier stuff a listen too.
BBB gets it.
The 2018 albums I keep regularly returning to so far:
Ohhh, What a Time to be Alive by Superchunk was really solid as well.
just interesting that people will praise DAYTONA shamelessly while writing off ye and KSG due to Kanye rapping all over them. do they only remember his stupid politics when hearing his voice or something? I feel like if we’re gonna praise DAYTONA let’s acknowledge that his role in creating that is equal to what he did…
We are definitely not missing Amerikkkant.
I’m a bit surprised Everything Is Love made it on here, feels like that album kinda faceplanted. Didn’t feel like anyone was enthusiastic about it, and it definitely came and went.
Oh those three indie kids? Oh right, they’re just about the biggest rap names of the last few years. Actually, of the three, just Kendrick I haven’t seen live. Yet.
I have liked Beyonce songs here and there, but she is terrible when combined with hip-hop. When Rihanna does a hook she’s in the cut, when Beyonce does a hook (or whatever she’s doing here) it sounds like a child’s recital. Kinda Broadway, kinda Celine Dion. Thousands of miles from hip hop. I thought this album was…
They should make a concept album about their checkbooks.
NO. KIDDING. “ ‘Do you have footage of a woman being publicly humiliated? Can we see, can we see??’ Slavers Website Still Trying to Maintain Feminist Cred”
Yeezus is fucking brilliant, but TLOP is unlistenable. I’ve been a Kanye fan nearly my entire life, but Pablo and Ye are the dealbreakers for me
Everyone hip-hop head I know that’s given Daytona a full listen has called it an instant classic.
critics are reluctant to give kanye his credit. his last couple releases (TLOP and Yeezus) were already showing the cracks of their love for him, but after he went full Trump, they don’t even have to hide their distaste. About half of the reviews in their first two paragraphs reference “kanye’s trump loving tweets…
Plus it’s being measured against Kanye’s long history of great work, rather than being measured in sort of a vacuum of “is this good or not?” Every album these 5 he’s releasing is going to be compared to each other, and unfortunately it started off extremely strong with Daytona.
Kanye gave his best ideas to Pusha and Cudi and kept none for himself. I’m surprised at the tepid reviews coming in for Kids See Ghosts. I’ve listened to it and Daytona repeatedly and only gone back to Ye twice.
