“I wanted to help you. I wanted to warn you. But in this world, it’s easy to misunderstand intentions.”

Kinda wished he could’ve given depression a bit of a platform with his celebrity and popularity rather than going it alone - it would have made a difference both for him and others who would be similarly inspired to seek help. Based on current reports and mentions, it appeared that nobody knew he was struggling with

I’m not sure I’d use the word cynicism; one of the things that made him so compelling was his nose for bullshit but he never came off as jaded.

Anthony Bourdain made me appreciate street food whenever I travel overseas.

Me too. Fifteen years. Just thought about that earlier when I heard the awful news.

Im absolutley fuking devastated by this. I watched 3 eps of the show LAST NIGHT and my wife and I were talking about what a funny thing, how he’s been “in our lives” for almost 20 years and we feel like he’s a friend or distant uncle. I mean, if I had to say 2 or 4 people I wanted to actually meet/spend time w/ from

Nicely said. He had huge generosity of spirit, as you said to the people he brought recognition to, and also his TV audience and readers. Sharing wisdom and experience about food and everything else. Adventurous, curious, funny, a bit of NYC cynicism but also idealistic. No one quite like him, and I’m stunned and

He showed that adventure is still possible in so many ways.

Jennifer Love Hewitt in that header image. DAMN!

I love Can’t Hardly Wait. It’s just a hell of a lot of fun.

Yes. The books give you more info, more characters (Sam, Bull, etc!), more character insights, more detail/nuance, more of the world in general because it has time for that. (The tv series also does some fleshing out like showing how Bobbie was before she lost her squad.)

I was literally about to type: The noose is tightening Hanks!

That is a jarring, incredible book.

Absolutely. Alien Lanes and Bee Thousand are both good starting points.

I’m familiar with GBV by name only. Are they a good band to look into if I’m into Pavement? I’m really in desperate need of some new music. My rotation is getting incredibly stale right now.

What Pollard release in the past 5 or so years hasn’t been consistently good to great? I like Sparkle Hard, but the last 3 GBV records are way better (and more interesting) in my opinion. It took 4 years for Malkmus to put out Sparkle Hard, and there’s still songs on it that could be heard as filler.  That tired
