I thought the pilot was fucking brilliant when I watched it the second time, partially because i watched the original movie between them. Theres a major visual hint to the true nature of Dolores right away, and you only get it if you’ve seen the movie

This was definitely my favorite episode. It had the best parts of the nonlinear storytelling without any of the bullshit.

I might put the pilot next to it (have to go back and rewatch it to check), but otherwise I agree.

They haven’t put out a bad one, but they haven’t really put out a good one since Teen Dream. I know people love Bloom, but I’ve never really understood why—it’s just Teen Dream with diminishing results (as is, for the most part, Depression Cherry and Thank Your Lucky Stars).

Bloom is the peak of their “traditional” sound, and while Depression Cherry and Lucky Stars were solid, they proved they weren’t ever going to top it for me. That’s why I welcome the change of sound on this one. Favorite album so far this year.

Loving this album. Crazy comparison - the fresh sound on this album reminds me of how I felt listening to Gorillaz’ Plastic Beach for the first time. This feels like a big, groundbreaking album.

Well for what it’s worth, I never really got into their first two albums or TYLS, but I’ve loved the rest and Depression Cherry is probably my favorite of that bunch. With that said, I’d say 7 is every bit as good as DC, quite possibly even better. I really love it.

Oh nice, this is high praise, Bloom and Devotion are my faves, so if this is as good as Bloom, I’m pumped!
