A great case in point - I bought the box sets for the first four seasons years ago, and was shocked at how little from each episode lands. The ratio of memorable skits per episode has remained fairly steady throughout the years, with certain casts and writers hitting slightly above average, as well as a couple of

Sadly, the virus doesn’t care about critical thinking skills. It won’t just kill the willfully obtuse, their actions will indirectly kill people who took proper precautions, the health workers on the front lines, our friends, our families. All because they would rather die than be inconvenienced.

Awww, that’s the one that showed up in Cap Hill, Seattle. It was in the No Parking on Broadway store after that, which has since closed. Wonder where it ended up.

Do not pretend that western nations have a sense of humor when it comes to national pride. America wouldn’t be in the mess it’s in right now if rabid nationalism wasn’t deeply tied to the identities of 40% of the population.

Sure, but this is a video game built around multiplayer 5v5 combat. That was always the stated goal of the game, and concessions were made to keep the sides balanced vs adherence to canon. It’s also a very class-based game, success requires a mix of ship types including support.

I think you’re overindexing on “collected data.”

It’s made clear in the Deadline article:

There are teams of data analysts just crunching numbers and figuring the release strategies for films in the age of covid. It’s a cold, soulless equation: how many people will risk a deadly disease to see this film in theaters and is that projected revenue higher than cutting bait and releasing VOD? For blockbuster

You should go back and read the developer interviews, they clearly set expectations for the title. TL;DR - This game is what it is, and was released with zero commitment to post-launch content.

To help manage your well-earned cynicism, the dev team has been very clear that Squadrons is a self-contained, small, focused game and the budget price reflects that. No loot boxes, no planned expansions (that means if you’re holding out for prequel content, look elsewhere). The game is also not a spiritual successor

I’ve never understood why major tech companies aren’t setting up shop in places with cheap land, cheap power, etc?

BACK IN YOUR DAY games were exponentially cheaper and less complex to develop. Signed, a retired 16-bit era developer.

It’s kind of lame that a periodic internet connection is kind of necessary for a game that can be played single player and offline.

Now playing

Don’t forget that Schoolhouse Rock also gave us a catchy theme song justifying Manifest Destiny. They weren’t all winners. :P

Minor correction: Dune 2000 is NOT based on Command and Conquer, but the other way around. The game is part remake, part sequel to Dune II: The Building of A Dynasty from 1992 which defined the modern RTS template that Command and Conquer and Warcraft would emulate. And just to get ahead of the “well actually...,”

The book this show is based on is set up as distinct vignettes with an overarching story. The show seems to be mapping it 1:1 (this episode is called “Jekyll in Hyde Park” in the book), though many details have been changed.
