Along those lines, I give you the 2016-present Prius roof console (for non-sunroof models, but the feature I’m talking about is on sunroof models as well):

In addition to 3laine’s comment... Pikes Peak is difficult partially because of how little running you get.

For what it’s worth, most diesel engines except for the very modern ones do turn their oil black almost instantly, and you can’t use color to check diesel oil condition as a result.

Because the Bronco Sport isn’t competing with the Wrangler, it’s competing with the FWD Jeeps (although not directly - the FWD Jeeps are a fair bit shorter, and the Compass (same length) isn’t as wide, the Cherokee (same width) is much longer).

Assuming the transponder was on. (There’s even plenty of cases where a transponder isn’t required!)

Ride The Wet Rod

That’s not the problem.

The problem I can see with that is... how do you actually, effectively, cap the budget?

Yeah, the only way they can get rid of reverse engineering is by getting rid of engineering.

So, airplanes actually are doing this increasingly - things like detecting when different sensors disagree (because they have redundant sensors) are common. (Except for the 737 MAX, where it was an option to have that software enabled. That’s changed now.)

It looks like they were comparing their test cycle’s results to the EPA test cycle, which does have braking.

And, per that EPA-tested Model S’s logs, the EPA messed up the test cycle by leaving the door open overnight...

That’ll be someone, likely on Ecomodder, that modded their personal Civic.

In Top Gear’s video, Gordon Murray himself said he wants to run this experiment.

Commit an offense for which the death penalty is an available penalty (murdering a fascist will do it), get charges filed against you before your arrest (this is the tricky part - there must be actual outstanding charges for this to work), cross into Canada, submit to arrest, and claim political asylum.

It means that you need to consider that 13% difference - diesels do often have better thermal efficiency, but the difference is much smaller than the MPG difference would imply, and when comparing to a Prius specifically... the Prius’s hybrid system is better at keeping the engine near its 40% thermal efficiency peak

The Cruze Diesel also burns a fuel that contains 13% more energy per gallon, emits 13% more CO2 per gallon, costs quite a bit more than 13% more per gallon, and also uses AdBlue that costs like $2-2.50/gal in bulk and gets used at, most likely, 2-3% of the rate of diesel, and has all the questionably reliable diesel
