No love for Billy Elliott, Chicken Run, or Battle Royale

I’ve watched a lot of Phil Collins music videos in lockdown, for some reason, and as much as I like the man’s music, he looks like a potato for most of his solo career. He definitely became more handsome as he got older.

There’s a similar joke in the “Bart’s Girlfriend” episode of The Simpsons that, if i remember the commentary correctly, cost something like $80,000.

I’d say the same with This Year’s Model

I mean, come on. It’s gotta be American Football’s 1999 self-titled.

Wait... You’re saying a network that shamelessly peddles Nazi or Nazi-adjacent propaganda employs sociopaths to put their faces to nationalist rhetoric for easy money would allow those same depraved personalities to engage in a culture of workplace violence and harassment that persists for years?

Reading the first few paragraphs, this was definitely reeking of Bresson vibes. Sure enough, his most punishing work is alluded to here.

I was chaperoning a high school trip a couple years back, and I brought my copy on a whim—it may have been the only non R-rated comedy I owned at the time. There are certainly some bits that have aged, but it was a big hit with the kids, and it’s still very funny.

I bet she doesn’t murder a single axe in that movie.

Blank Check with Griffin and David has been on fire this year. The end of its Demme run and its George Miller series were incredible.

As someone who struggles with vision issues, but who loves film and television, theater is nearly impossible. So, having Hamilton come to Disney+ is a godsend.

Justin Bieber is younger than me, but looks at least a decade older with that clump of fuzz on his lip.

I grew up with these Toy Story movies, and I love all of them, but while TS4 is not perfect—there are a handful of missed opportunities to iron out character arcs in meaningful ways—it’s far more thematically satisfying than TS3, and its ending is far more moving. We don’t really know Andy. And we only kind of care

It’s not okay, and no one is arguing that it is? And when 30 Rock does blackface, it’s at the expense of the characters doing it. It’s acknowledging that the practice is offensive, whereas certain North American leaders are just appropriating blackness because they think there’s something inherently funny about it. The

I think 30 Rock always had its heart in the right place with social satire, but there are instances—particularly in terms of queer representation—that haven’t aged well. This at least seems like a step in the right direction. And in the end, 30 Rock is still one of the best sitcoms of the century.

Saw the positive reviews—including Rife’s here—and yeah. The Vast of Night is gonna stick around for a while.

The only part of me that is remotely okay with this is the part where I just want these movies to be done and over with. I have nothing against Avatar. I saw it. Wasn’t really for me. Cool that it made a bunch of money. But even the discourse of how little it gets discussed is exhausting.

Except the show is clearly on Ted’s side. There are so many cues and beats that play his actions as romantic. And even when the show paints him as a bumbling doofus, it’s less in the spirit of condemnation and more good-natured ribbing.

If it were Avatar-related, it’d just be the end of a Na’vi braid.

The Gerry/Jerry/Larry/Terry hate is something so strange that even Amy Poehler felt the need to discuss it in Yes Please. This was always my least favorite part of the show, but I’m kind of okay with it. Gerry/Jerry/Larry/Terry is an unflappable guy, he’s got a crazy beautiful family, his penis is huge, he’s the mayor
