I had a new 86' Merkur (double spoiler) and a used 88' (single spoiler). The 86' in blue was a fun car. Wife totalled it on black ice. Only thing we could buy comparably with the insurance money was the 88'. It was not a good car and would intermittently and unexpectedly die while driving. Not great on the highway.

Literally just bought a bag of Whisps at Costco...Stew tonight!

As a teen I was flying knee to knee with my dad alongside another father/son combo on a four-seater headed into Canada. I had eaten blueberry yogurt for breakfast. The entire couple-hour flight was totally consumed by clouds, like flying inside cotton candy. My stomach started getting the curdles and my dad saw the

Many jurisdictions have an infraction deferral program. Likely you will have to pay $50-$100 more than the ticket, but it gets dismissed after 6 months to a year and your insurance carrier is none the wiser. Prosecutor’s offices often rely on their “cut” of deferral monies to shore up their office budgets, so they are

...hush, hush, keep it down now, horses scare me...

Back in the 80's my (new) wife and I thoroughly enjoyed “To the Manor Born”.

Portillo’s FTW!!!!!

Back in the early 1980's, my advanced (and beloved) speech professor was a very proper and classy African American woman. One day in class, she mentioned in passing that she once owned a 1958 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser. During an assignment where we put on a “mock” dinner banquet, we had one of the students breathlessly

Just finished watching the Whole.Damn.Thing. I question the sanity of restoring that rustbucket, but those are some mad fabrication/welding skills. Many props. Videography A+.

Sorry, Torch. Some 70's era cars were badass. A silver 1974 Grand Am like this was my first car:

Instead of having parents (with good credit) co-sign a loan, another option is having them place you as a authorized user on a long established credit card. This instantly raised my son’s credit score 45 points. Eventually he will need the credit when the 1997 Saab Aero I gave him (which he loves - good thing he’s a

I had one of those when I was 11. The pong game was OK; the best game was volleyball. If you noticed, the controller had an “english” knob. This allowed you to spike the ball once it got over the net. As I recall, the game was about $100 in 1972. You had to put a piece of scotch tape over the hole at the top of the

This comment made me laugh til I cried...well done...

It looks like Suzuki has recycled/improved the RV 125 I had as a kid in 1977. It was a lot of fun, but clearly not a highway cruiser.

Harold Baines story. I was the editor of a small college newspaper in the early 80's. White Sox had a “College Sports Editors Day” at old Comiskey. I joined my sports editor at the event. Tony LaRussa gave all the college kids a nice talk in the dugout pre-game and everyone left to go eat in the left field pavilion.

My wife and I bought a brand new 1987 XR4ti as an impulsive purchase early in our marriage. Blue with the bi-wing spoiler. It was a great car and my wife still talks wistfully about it. She crashed/totalled it on black ice on an overpass (I was the passenger, which almost never happened). The insurance settlement we

I had the chance to drive a Morgan Aero that a local attorney bought from a down-on-his-luck rapper. It was really cool and really quick.

I know two people who visited this guys garage. Said he was totally awesome and super nice. TV reality stuff is BS.

I just snagged a mint 2004 Camry XLE for my son with 66k literally from a little old lady who drove it to church. It replaces the 1998 Camry with 180k but fairly serious clear coat issues. These suckers are invincible...

The Saab 9000 turbo was an underrated car. I had a 97 aero which I gave to my engineer son last year. I loved every one of the 160k I put on the clock. Granted, the $20kish in repairs included 2 head gaskets, 3 fuel pumps, heater core, turbo, etc. He loves driving it as well. He should, I fixed everything...
