Don’t worry. Marseille is fantastic. Parts of the city are a touch sketchy for women alone at night, but that’s true of just about any city anywhere in the world. Eat all the food.

I have found that referring to my trad-aged classmates as “young men” and “young women” seems to bridge that gap somewhat. Sticking “young” in front seems to make it easier for them to identify with it.

I knew a man who, in order to avoid calling grown women “girls,” called them “females.” He was just viscerally opposed to the word “woman,” it seemed.

I realize I’m like, the only person in the world who seems to care about this, but can we talk about how “Girl” is still used ubiquitously to refer to grown women?
