I don’t use it at that much (I don’t fiddle with dash all that much in any other cars either, because Bluetooth pairing), but I wouldn’t trade in that giant screen for all of the shiny hardware in the world. The potential is too great to do something as needlessly regressive as revert to physical switchgear.

Have you driven a Model S and used the touchscreen? It’s really not that bad. I’ve certainly used worse interfaces in cars.

And sacrifice the infinite flexibility that a digital interface offers? I don’t think so. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but a button serving only a single purpose will soon become archaic, as it’s a relative waste of real estate.
