Hermine would’ve won...
I was having this same thought. This episode was all about metamorphoses, and we watch Ruby transform back and forth throughout. From the few people I’ve known in my small town drag scene, it seems that the transformation is an important and informative part of the experience, which helped the stories overlap for me…
That was Shangela and Monet who are drag queens in the roles! Were they not just drag queens doing a little pageantry work with Montrose’s lover? I don’t think we know enough about them I guess, just label it all as queer henny.
Is it accurate to refer to Montrose’s lover and the other ball participants as “trans women,” or is that imposing a modern understanding on a historical phenomenon that wasn’t quite so clear cut? I’m not an expert on ball culture, by any means, but my understanding is that for some participants it was more about expres…
The scene when Ruby/Hillary gets the free ice cream cone, instantly reminded me of the classic Eddie Murphy SNL skit, “White Like Me”
After the Ouija board spelled out “George” is also spelled out “IS DEAD”. I took that to be the spirits in the house taunting Diana, reminding her her father is dead. As much as I want George to return as a ghost helper/guide, I don’ think this is it. But maybe I’m wrong.
If it's anything like the book, Hippolyta will have a GREAT standalone starring ep.
I feel like that’s an artifact of the book it’s based on. The book felt like a collection of short stories about this group of characters.
The show’s following the book pretty closely, this was just Chapter 2. It makes sense in the big picture.
Cool for Andre Braugher to be nominated for B99, but Stephanie Beatriz & Melissa Fumero are equally deserving & keep getting snubbed & hack sitcom actresses nominated in that category
I know I could use more 30 Rock in my life, so I’m not gonna complain.
Wow get the fuck outta here. She used the bathroom argument? I expect Lindsay Graham to do that, Jesus Christ she is a lost cause.
You seem fun.
It sounds like you should give this a miss, I guess.
Bingo. The 10 yr old episode had a parody of the meme, not a celebration of it.. Now it is a celebration of the parody. Satire is hard.
The Office, unable to escape this cultural vortex, recreated it for Pam and Jim’s wedding, too. It was and is horribly unfunny. In our review from ‘09, Nathan Rabin referred to the dance as “an already embarrassingly-dated YouTube meme.”
Aidy Bryant is already the lead in a successful sitcom.
Yeah, the past three episodes cheered me with all their “let’s put in a show!” vibe. They didn’t have to do them and but they did and I thank them for doing it. The last skit, the video of them dreaming about being back in a normal world was wonderful
I see him as an inspiration, in a way. He taught us that if you make something weird enough, you can have a long career in comedy without having to write any jokes.
I know that Kyle Mooney is kind of a hero of weird alt comedy types, but his sketch tonight...woof. That was rough. I appreciate that comedy is an intensely subjective thing, and I get there are people who love that brand of comedy, so I won’t begrudge them that, but this sort of “See, it’s weird and awkward and…
