Employers here are hesitant to hire people. Mostly they bring on contract employees who have no rights or benefits whatever.

It doesn't matter. If they don't have a reason, they will make one up. Really. It happened to me. They often go thru the motions and then just make up shit.

I had a roommate in college that did exactly that. She spent 80% of her waking hours in the sun. Once she started peeling and then tanned/burned on top of that. She looked like she had some sort of skin disease. But as far as I know she is ok 35 years later.
