It's interesting to look at the day of absence/presence "incident" with this professor from different perspectives. I think that's what the day(s) are supposed to be about: having discussions from different perspectives and then coming together to share those perspectives and learn how to work and live together.

I think that you may be misunderstanding the purpose of the day of absence/presence at Evergreen college. The purpose is to discuss race-related issues from different perspectives, the perspective of people of color and the perspective of the white majority culture.
