Because they are girls. It’s a less intimidating environment to participate in surrounded by people like you. Maybe it is isn’t a perfect solution for every female who would potentially be too weirded out by the gender ratios to attend a smash event, but I’m sure it helps some.

There is still an open bracket at all of these tournaments which has a much larger prize pool than the Smash Sisters event. Winning the female side event nets you enough money for a cheap meal at a restaurant.
