Wings ran for, it seems like 10 years, but it seems to have vanished also. Not that I'm complaining.

I saw Bianca at the Castro Theater in San Francisco not long after she won the crown. Very disappointed. She talked way too fast and her delivery seemed like she was still working in a bar instead of a crowded theater. She seemed like she was rushing through her act. She's great on TV but maybe she's better in a

Bryce likes getting pegged?

Betty could have kind of done that with Causing a Commotion (unwed, pregnant - scandalous!) but I don't think she has the comedy chops for it.

The food was pretty good for fast food. But it understandably loses its appeal when you have to empty the grease trap on the side of the grill and filter the fryers.

I worked at a Burger Chef in Mishawaka, Indiana in the early 80s but by that time, the cool orange and aquamarine decor had been trashed in favor of 70s pseudo-Colonial decor. The food was very good but the uniforms were brown, orange and yellow polyester and I would go home reeking of grease.

There's a classic Mary Tyler Moore Show about the perils of pre-writing obits. But I doubt there is a Ted Baxter equivalent at the A.V. Club.

Good call! My copy is falling apart. Lots of detailed footnotes, too.

I used my 1979 edition of The Complete Directory until it fell apart. Don't know what happened to my Total Television copy (the go-to book for daytime shows until The Encyclopedia of Daytime TV and various genre books were published).

My husband … some hot shot.

"I'm Rula Lenska."

Man, where was Nihilist Arby's when I was working the drive-thru death window there in 1982-3?

And if we're going to go with conservatives' fetish for "original intent," the right to bear arms is restricted to muskets and canons.

It's utter nonsense. This kind of conservative activist ideology boils down to the right claiming omnipotence over what the authors meant … and this so-called "originalism" is indulged in selectively, as is conservatives' penchant for states' rights (except when they're not for them).

Now that's the ultimate in soap opera recap dialogue.

One time, a contestant tried to write in one of the electronic price/guess displays instead of on the check … a very novel way to piss Bob off.

And Herb trying to outrun the camera crew. Such an underrated classic. I still crack up at the thought of Lucille's description of "Little House on the Prairie."

And then the milder Phyllis death curse: Barbara Colby (Julie?, Phyllis' boss) was murdered and crotchety Judith Lowry (Mother Dexter) died after season 1, I think.

They really botched that one. It's as if they thought the audience couldn't handle it, though they did address (in passing) the death of the actor who played Charlie the train engineer.

Was her name Vanessa and did she wear veils to cover a facial disfigurement? I had always watched CBS soaps (until they killed As the World Turns) but only watched Y&R briefly when it premiered and around 1979-80 (Paul was shirtless a lot and, I think, trying to get April out of a cult or something.).
