Which previous seasons at Opera Omaha did you find contained overwrought crap? For a company that only does three operas a year, I think doing stuff like A Flowering Tree, Bluebeard’s Castle and Agrippina is pretty awesome.

Opera absolutely DOES have huge misogyny problems (as well as major, MAJOR orientalism problems) but this is really more of a sensationalism problem. Increasingly opera directors are taking leaves from the worst aspects of film and TV by using sexual assault as set dressing.
