Brutal (assuming a Simmons joke)
Brutal (assuming a Simmons joke)
If you see the tag ‘Hot Links’ on our site, it means we want to highlight an important story from another outlet that we hope people will read in full. This NYT piece is an important one, and we thought Takeout readers would want to know about it.
I mean, he has a point. This site is pretty much half promotional ads trying to sell me shit. Trying to paint the AV Club as some bastion of anti commercialism is pretty disingenuous at best.
So as I said above, the talking point goes from ‘let’s empower this young girl who I feel must have been abused for titillation’ to ‘this young girl doesn’t know shit vs. my uninformed take’.
“If you’re an A.V. Club reader, you probably share our general cynicism for promotional nonsense.”
I thought the same thing after watching that behind-the-scenes special on Netflix, but apparently that was misleading. Have you read the Indiewire interview with Sadie Sink? I’ll quote the relevant passage:
There’s not being any good at this and being so bad that she couldn’t wait for a drumroll they had rehearsed waiting for. The latter just doesn’t seem likely to me, especially because Stephanie being oblivious in asking for the drumroll then getting cut off is EXACTLY the type of character beat that they like to hit…
I had a different read on it last night: I thought they were trying to harness Rousey’s bad acting in a way that worked. For example, I thought her cutting off the drumroll was clearly intentional and supposed to be her cutting past Stephanie’s faux-friendly bullshit. In that context, her rough delivery felt natural…
There are so many wonderful things on kickstarter and indiegogo, but because of stories like these, I never back them... I don’t have a lot of disposable income, so the fear of losing even a little bit of money is too much. I’m sorry for all the people who got bad products...
Notch’d been known as a bigot prior to this year though.
This is someone who just claimed that Nintendo “got lazy” when they literally solved the TV-portable console divide, when it doesn’t appear any other company is serious about even trying.
I’m not really denying that it has good games.
You can harp on this all you want, but the Switch is not a Wii U tablet. At all. Beyond the same between-controls screen layout that the Game Boy Advanced also had (which several Game Boy iterations since then have retained along with a second upper screen) most everything else is different, including the button…
gameplay doesnt change vs docked or undocked
<soapbox>[while playing Samus returns] Which is a cool feature, but it has no bearing on gameplay. Wii U gamepad asynchronous gameplay was unique. Wii motion controls was unique.
and I’m a hard no on the switch.
This is a quantitative description of the swingiest games in World Series history. Sure, it sounds wordsy, but take that for what it’s worth: It’s saying that Game 2 was the swingiest game ever in 115+ years, then Game 5 out-swung that. That’s pretty awesome, even if you had to parse an extra clause or two to figure…
Peggy isn’t going to be pleased about this, I tell you what.
Oh don’t worry, we know. We can tell by the way they value property over human lives.
You are definitely a bigger asshole than the guy who wished your team luck this year.
