I’m a little confused why they didn’t hire a real dog for the scenes where he interacts with people and then make a CGI dog for the scenes where he doesn’t. You don’t really need a CGI dog for the whole movie - it’s not like he’s Gollum.

The Hobbit has a heart and sense of levity that Tolkien lost as his work got more and more serious. The fairy-tale sense of wonder started to disappear.

On this I (also a major Tolkien nerd) highly disagree with Colbert. As The Hobbit is a CHILDRENS BOOK. Its not meant to have the “high style” of LotRs because its a childrens book. It is literally the best book to read aloud to a child. Start them off with The Hobbit and bring them up into LotRs.

@marshmellow: Data centers are heavy - about 150 lbs/sqft. Having all of the load directly on the foundation slab is much easier and cheaper than building a foundation and structure that can hold twice that weight, distributed around a matrix of columns.
