Neither. Assholes simply exist everywhere, and are attracted to different outlets for their assholishness. Religion is relatively popular because it gives you a loud voice, this is also why politics is popular.

These days, any story of people putting partisan politics aside to just be compassionate and human to each other puts a smile on my face. Class all around on this one.
