Wrong about what?
Wrong about what?
While I am disappointed that Grimm is no longer being reviewed, I do understand what must be the reasons (see below). With their top reviewers leaving AV Club, they're spread too thin and can't cover everything they used to.
Todd van der Werff and Sonia Soraiya are the ones I miss.
It's not true that the BBC doesn't need ratings. They constantly have to justify their role and the license fee in the face of competition from ITV and subscription TV. Fortunately they have a little leeway for some quality content, subsidised by the mass-appeal shows, but they are always looking over their shoulder.
That makes sense. I'm finding TV Club a little threadbare since Todd vdW and Sonia Saraiya left - they carried a lot of shows, most of which are big-time shows now reviewed by others, leaving the likes of Grimm untended.
Hmmm, OK. I'm not watching Constantine so I've never read the reviews, or comments, after the first week or so. I'll take a look tonight for the Grimm thread. Thanks for the tip. I liked the reviews.
Wrong about what?
Why isn't Grimm even mentioned in "What Else is On"? AV Club used to review it weekly until a few months ago, and never explained why they stopped. Now it doesn't even rate a cursory mention?
But Viola Davis has some of the worst overacting. She's always overdoing things, shouting her lines, getting all worked up to 150% emoting maximum over every little thing. It's the terrible script that puts her in these situations, of course, and she has a director, so it's hardly her own fault.
By ratings, I suppose you mean "views/clicks on A.V. Club"? I suppose I could see A.V. Club not caring about a show's actual worth, even as evaluated by their own reviewers, just about how many viewers they get when they come to sell advertising and pay and assign their reviewers. I don't see why they'd care about…
So why is this overdone, overacted mishmash show getting all this attention while White Collar - which once was a staple of A.V. Club - being ignored in its final, short season?
I just discovered the preview at TV Review, but I missed the reference to it here that you quote, maybe because it didn't get its own paragraph and sub-heading. Apologies - though I would have appreciated at least bolding of the title to make it easier to notice.
It's due to air on BBC 1, which commissioned it from BBC Wales. But it's appearing in the US first. Unusual, but not unwelcome.
Yes.
With no fewer than 14 entries for "What else", including old movies and sports, AV Club can't even be bothered to mention the premiere of a new British miniseries on BBC America, called The Game. What's the matter with them?
I like that, thanks. I never knew about that, and even if I'd seen it under "More" I'd never guess that's what "Feature Jump" meant. Not exactly obvious, but good. If I do it enough, I'd add it to my long list of bookmarks, but for now, I think this will work better,
Is there a trick for finding What's On Tonight when it's not one of the photo links at the top of the TV Club page? If it's not right there in teh group at the top or on the right, it can't be found at all below the list no matter how deep you go. There's no link to it I can find on the page - am I missing something?…
'Cary could have just said “I miss you” to Kalinda in person.' Not at 30 ft. distance, he couldn't. He'd have to shout it.
Yeah. Dogs?
Mandango.
