Just for clarification purposes, FFXI was not a console MMO first and foremost. It was developed and released for PC 3-4 months before it was released on the PS2. You are really over exaggerating. I'm "legacy" player so i have access to the PC, and PS3 betas going on currently. While the PC version (which is a no brainer) is superior performance wise. The difference between the 2 arent as night and day as you'd like this person to believe.

I've played the PS3 beta and you are exagerrating. For one thing, the graphics are actually lowered to make the download smaller. Second, I have not had frame rate issues on the PS3 beta. That's unfortunate because as far as MMOs go, the more the merrier. I'm participating in the beta myself, and it is actually fun. (again) And in a way, cross-platform gaming dissipates a lot of fanboy-isms.
