I’m open to the argument that The Exorcist still works as a monster movie, but for it to be as effective as its reputation suggests, one must at least be open to believing in the existence of demons and their capacity to infect human bodies.

LOL, I felt exactly the same way as I read it. Like, I hate being the “original was best!” person, and I guess I’m saved that 8 is clearly the best. But I’ll take SNES over probably all the rest. The cornering is the best in the series, the sense of speed and camera work make a very simple thing exciting, it had just…
I felt the same way at the time and argued with my friends about it all the time. That the graphics and hills and everything were a welcome add, but everything else about the game play was missing on what made Mario Kart great. Really, it was just an oddly boring game. But I’ve got this crazy old crotchety opinion…
I’ve been frustrated with every main game since the SNES one with how ridiculous the opponents’ item pickups get when you’re way out in first (I haven’t played any of the handhelds). In the original, they got some more red shells and the very occasional lightning bolt, but especially in the games later than N64, it’s…
Clicks to see if Brotherhood of the Wolf is listed, feels rising hope that it will be after seeing list curation, gradually becomes angry that it isn’t there, and then it is there right at the last second! What a ride!
Maybe crunch time would be easier to avoid if work didn’t involve getting drunk and going to strip clubs. Just a thought.
And always has been, is the thing.
lest it awaken the children too early from their innocent, oblivious slumber, as if Daryl Hannah’s badonkadonk is the trigger for horny sleeper agents.
It’s not the deepest story—Resident Evil 3 sometimes channels the controversial Paul W. S. Anderson films and even some of the wry pulp of S.D Perry’s old novelization
The sad part is that if the people supporting Bernie could have the agenda they wanted without Bernie. They’d reject it. Cuz Bernie who had never led anything must lead it.
Reframing your argument to address the concerns of the other person isn’t some sort of evil manipulation tactic, it’s good communication.
LOL, thanks. I read it later and realized I had a typo and said “insufferable” twice, but it was outside the Kinja edit window. I partly attribute this to cramming the comment into the middle of a ten minute work break and partly to the fact that I was legitimately getting worked up as I wrote it.
If you repeating the same technically correct fact is not getting people over to your side, you need to change tactics, not repeat the same thing harder. But that seems to be the only method they accept, and I am worried it will spell out the end for Bernie one day.
God, I feel so old being in my late-30s and talking about how kids in the ‘20s don’t know anything, but seriously. Maybe one of the most baffling things for me about Sandernista rage in 2016 was that so many of them were surprised that the DNC’s nomination process isn’t exactly democratic or that the media is…
Also, the real irony is Sanders backers who (understandably) complain about erasure when they are lumped together as a group with the bros, even as they themselves erase Warren supporters by lumping them all in together with the wealthy liberals.
You know what I’ve never heard a Bernie supporter ask me? “Why do you like Elizabeth Warren?” and then attempt to make a case for how Bernie Sanders actually addresses the same points.
I mostly agree with this, except that patriarchy is one of the defining features of fundamentalist Christianity, so even if it’s religiously motivated, it’s still patriarchal. But I think your broader point about complexity stands. “Patriarchy likes violence and doesn’t like emotion” is really simple, and patriarchy…
Of course, because threatening to break ranks and vote for the opposition is the centrist’s primary weapon. And like all abusive narcissists they project their flaws onto everyone else.
What I am most interested in is what they will do for money, though they have announced plans to launch some sort of charitable endeavor.
Well, you did say that all the games meeting the criteria are old, and this certainly applies, but I do believe you snubbed the original Dark Forces. The next generation of FPS after Doom, one of the first to allow looking up and down, jumping, and ducking (which just felt mind-blowing then), and an awesome story…
