#tip. Unless it is your job, be tech savvy but not too tech savvy. You don't want your computer to show itself to be optimized for goofing off. Your computer will show a lot about you so pay attention to what you are doing
You have a ton of flexibility. Are you looking to practice writing? Just get a blog. Design? Just get a hosted site and get designing. Code or architecture? Set up your own server.

Well, most of the full time 9 to 5's are actually 8 to 5 with an hour for lunch. I think the idea is that if you work all day every weekday, you will need an extra 30 mins to do stuff that you need to get done during the hours that everything is open.
