Very true. My mother-in-law has a beautiful 356 Convertible D and she complains about it being temperamental; she hasn’t listened to me* (or her husband**) saying that’s just because she doesn’t drive it enough.

Old Porsches love to be driven too, and only start acting shitty when you stick them in the garage for too long

Sadly, the original Ampera’s death came after just four years on the market. The plug-in hybrid, sold in 2011-14, drew buyers in even smaller numbers than its American counterpart, the Chevy Volt. Its lackluster sales are mostly attributed to its range on battery power alone (around 40 miles), which didn’t convince

Nice car! And I agree, my 911 is a mechanically sorted, daily drive-able 5-footer and I see no reason to change that or to strive for show-quality perfection. I love using it and it wouldn’t be as fun if I had to worry constantly about rock chips or getting it dirty.

I admit kinda dig it, though. I’m reasonably certain a more faithful translation would’ve had more front and rear overhang. I’dve ditched any attempt to emulate that belt line. Part of the issue was the concept rode on a bespoke chassis, IIRC.

That said, they literally should’ve copy-pasted this and worked from there:

Thank you, Shane. We live just east of Austin, and it’s been ugly since Sunday morning. Ugly enough to keep me from my job since then as well. I’ll count my blessings: No loss of power, and enough water saved for drinking and toilet use.

Yeah, someone doesn’t really get NP or ND.

Let’s be honest though, full badging on a modern Porsche sucks. Too many words, too many fonts. I’d order mine with just the PORSCHE in block font, skip all the 911Carrera S bullshit

Original Audi TTs had a problem with flying off the autobahn. IIRC they recalled them to add a spoiler.  So ... yes?

Maybe a long drive, but he’ll fetch it.

Corollary: Porsche’s target includes a number of customers that will pay extra to delete the badging off the vehicle. Leaving the deployable spoiler up when not in use is not in their vocabulary.

I think there is a distinction missing. Deploying it when it is supposed to be deployed - very Porsche.

Asked another way: If you were John Hamm, would you wear baggy pants?

Why this hasn’t been a thing on SUVs and trucks for the last 15 years I have no idea. They need it as much or more than the 911. Everyone removes it 10 minutes after driving off the lot. And then loses around 1mpg. If they would make it retractable - they could stay on. And almost all of them have retractable side

Looks far better with the chin spoiler up and out of sight.

Since there really is no NP/ND market for this, I am voting with my heart today. I really want this.  I’m glad it’s winter; otherwise, I would be begging my wife to burn some unused vacation for a road trip to Canada.  NP from the heart here.

Panamera still has the coolest deployable spoiler in recent history:

THIS is exactly the kind of classic you want. Reminds me of my old Frankencar, a 1962 356B T-6 Coupe. Had the engine from a 64, was painted decently a light yellow color but it was originally blue which you could see when it chipped anywhere and some areas of the interior, but it ran like an absolute top and needed

If I had room for a classic Saab in the garage, I’d be writing him a check right now.

The Volvo 122S is quickly becoming one of my favorite little collector cars, because the lines are simple, and it was underappreciated for so long.
