I’d really love to stop talking about how the President is perceived (and how he perceives himself) and keep the focus on the bigger issues. Can we please hone in on the fact that the president’s VOICE program is one of the most frightening things we’ve seen come from a President who is already hell bent on crushing

Conservatives have pushed the “Islam isn’t a religion; it’s a political system” line for the past several years in order to argue that it therefore isn’t protected by the First Amendment. They’re building on that foundation with their constant talk of “radical ISLAMIC!!!1! terrorism.”

My biggest qualm in this debate is how this fundamentally conflicts with some of the founding precepts of America. People will say things like how Islam isn’t reformed enough to be ranked among the other fertile crescent religions, how there are too many radical elements, it’s treatment of women being inappropriate

That is precisely the point - there are already people saying that Islam is an ideology and not a religion, and therefore isn’t protected under the Constitution. People like US Representative from Georgia Jody Hice (do I even need to say which party he belongs to?), who insists that Islam is a total life ideology and

“To refuse to recognize a religion..seems like an obvious step to taking civil rights from the followers of that religion”

It just speaks to a person who is truly, truly, twisted on the inside. Sometimes, you just can’t separate the art from the artist, and the same person who would fantasize about a “pack of n—” is absolutely the same person who fantasizes about humans getting their organs ripped out of their bodies.

He wasn’t belittling her, and nobody has ever framed it that way. Her loss is very real. It was also completely in vain, on a poorly designed plan, which ultimately falls to the Commander in Chief. And Trump both grotesquely trotted her out there to pump himself up, while dodging the blame by saying military leaders

As long as you can get American soldiers killed, you will always have defenders, because there will always be people who think saying that American soldiers were sent somewhere to die for no good reason is more offensive than sending American soldiers somewhere to die for no good reason.

If they know what they’re doing (HAHAHA) never. Nothing rallies up opposition to a war faster than conscription.

I refused to watch the speech, because obviously, but when I saw the headlines on NY1 this morning with the “press” pivoting to say he was “Presidential” and didn’t pee on any of the carpets, my reaction was, ‘here we go...’

Chris Cilizza is consistently and dangerously moronic. But “Donald Trump understood the applause for Carryn Owens was a moment. And he let it be.” is simply wrong.

I kid you not.

Resident Islamophobia expert here. Their belief is that Islam is a political ideology fronting as a religion; that is, one cannot be a genuine Muslim without being an Islamist. If a Muslim denies it, he/she is either ignorant of their belief system or engaged in taqiya (a sanctioned form of deception).

When Gorka says, this is an administration, not a seminary, how do you not ask is Christianity a religion?

Michael Moore made this point last night: don’t forget Donald Trump is a member of SAG-AFTRA. He had his greatest success as a TV performer, and this was a performance, with a carefully written speech and the encouragement of a loyal Republican audience (he rarely even looked towards the Democrats).

Sorry to sound like a bitch, but...

This. Van Jones has lost his goddamn mind. The fawning over Drumpf using a war widow as a prop is disgusting in its own right - but it’s even worse considering the agency being created to demonize immigrants as potentially dangerous criminals was discussed in the same. fucking. speech. It’s like they didn’t listen to

My issue isn’t with giving her that platform. What happened to her husband is a tragedy, and she should get more attention. My issue is with Van Jones describing Trump’s comments as a historic moment, or what makes Trump presidential.

@cait98: I don't understand your concept a childbirth. The things you mention "thrashing around in pain," etc. pretty much only happen in the movies. Also, things don't "need to be inserted" to get the baby out without your consent. Nor do vaginal exams need to happen without your consent. It is not medically
