Here in Asia the vast majority back up almost by default. I think it’s the philosophy of, “do the inconvenient thing first for an easier time later”.

My commute wasn’t horrible, because it was a mere 10 minute drive and I usually started work at around 10am (when most of peak hour has passed).
After my test, my tester sat me down for my assessment, and he kept saying and repeating that I ‘failed to check my blind spots’, marking me down for it at least four times.

The reason Mitsuoka can do these cars is because they’re kinda like a coachbuilder. They make limited quantities of these cars (the ‘Corvette-Miata’ Rock Star is limited to just 200 units for instance) and so they don’t have to conform to crash test regulations and such. It’ll be hard to get these to US Fed…
