I thought Joe's speech to Cameron about being bullied was genuinely affecting. I'd forgotten he's lied about his childhood before (I probably blocked it out because that is such a bad scene) but here he seems genuinely worried about Lev. It's a subtle way to remind us of Joe's queerness and to show him what damage

My kingdom for a show that has an ostensibly bisexual character that isn't a sociopath! I enjoy this show a lot but the Devious Bisexual trope is getting old.

It's just like the review said, the whole "older gay man preys on a younger man's sexual curiosity" stereotype rings a bit uncomfortable since it's very overdone and has unfortunate implications. It does work in this context as a spy trope but there's still ickiness. It's even more uncomfortable in this context since

I didn't notice the (probably) unintentional homophobia with Alexander's affair with Tobias, but it's an interesting angle that I can definitely see now. I hate to compare this show to The Americans again after so many people have already done so but I like how both this show and that show (with the case of Gregory)

We were so! close! to getting a TV show to say the word "bisexual". I guess I'll have to settle for "bi-curious" for now. This show is kind of hella dumb but I'm willing to see where it goes. They did introduce a LOT of cliches in the pilot and I was hoping they would subvert them immediately but maybe that'll happen

I want to sit down every music supervisor working right now and tell them that yes, "Retrograde" by James Blake is a very good song, but we have got to stop using it in TV shows. It's been used in Suits, Masters of Sex, The Leftovers, Rush (that cancelled USA show), Togetherness, and now iZombie. Just say no to

Oh wow, you're totally right. Like Liv, I'm seeing references that aren't even there.

I now dub this the Iris West Effect, since it became the absolute worst part of The Flash up until recently.

I love the name Major Lilywhite though! I now use it to refer to any bland, yet somewhat attractive white love interests (this was meant as a knock towards Major in the first few couple of episodes but he's really come into his own since then; it's still a great burn though)

Knowing Rob Thomas's love of puns I wouldn't be surprised if there's a plot twist with Major every season so that every season has a Major Twist.

It wouldn't be a Rob Thomas show without gratuitous references to The Big Lebowski! Although I find it hard to believe that Liv would automatically assume that the woman in the vision was trying to get pregnant, unless every character just really likes TBL.
