Sorta. It takes place before Alien, and it is the same universe. In one of the trailers you can see paintings of the Alien's on the walls in the ruins they visit, but Ridley also said in a interview it was going to explore its own mythology and ideas.

I always tell myself I won't buy the next Halo game because after the initial play-through and a bit of multiplayer I feel done with it.
