I really just don’t think of that as joke theft, it seems more like she heard a joke and wanted to give her reaction to those jokes (which are also urban dictionary things) and that was what made her bit funny.

Joan Rivers! Hey, I think that IS where I first heard it!

The window part was actually in the Urban Dictionary definition of the Houdini years ago, when I first read about it.

All of the examples I’ve seen are basically what comics refer to as “street jokes”. Shit that everyone knows but nobody can lay claim to originating.

She killed my Brother in a knife fight in Saigon, back in ‘73 and on that day I swore revenge. Now, 43 years later, my opportunity is here and bitchy internet comments are my weapon of choice.

Yes. I just listened to the Jenny McCarthy clip.

I know, right? I made a joke in 1985 once that you never want to be lost near any street named after Martin Luther King (because I actually did get lost on MLK drive in Chicago), and years later, I heard Chris Rock tell the same joke! He effing owes me!

I don’t really see those sex stories as either of their material. They’re like urban legends that belong to no one. It’s what you do with them that counts. Patrice’s delivery was rapey. He thought the stories themselves were funny, which is upsetting. Schumer acknowledged the rapeyness of them and turned *that* into

Except they were based on jokes that have been on the internet for years — and not only that, she didn’t just re-tell the joke, she built on it and pointed out that it describes rape, something that surely was not part of the original.

I gotta say, her perspective on this joke, her elaboration, is what makes this funny to me. Pointing out the American history, calling the Houdini rape, that’s the funny part, for me. Otherwise, this is just a stupid listing of weird sex. Not a joke.

You know who also learned persuasive speaking skills? Hitler.

Except neither of them claimed to originate what they were discussing. They both were doing riffs on an urban legend sex act which predates either special. It’s like saying of two comedians who riff on George Bush, the later one must be a joke thief. Patrice never claimed to have made that sex act up himself.

I think the Liebman joke is one of the weakest claims. That’s a pretty obvious joke. I’m sure it’s been made a million times by a million people.

Both bits can be considered “stolen” from urban dictionary. Even if Amy and Patrice wrote the joke together, it isn’t that great of a joke. I’ve seen the special, and she should have closed on hundreds of other bits that were far better.

Yeah. If anything, they've both stolen these jokes from UrbanDictionary, just like I did back in middle school.

Yup, what I was thinking as well. These jokes seem to be common good at this point. Still funny, if delivered well.

White people who compare mild to moderate situations/annoyances to MLK’s struggle are the fucking worst.

“I made a joke about dating, and then AMY made a joke about dating!! THEN I made a joke about boobs, and of course Amy went and made a boob-joke too! Then I did this whole bit where it would be surprising that I was being crass because I am a girl, you know? Guess what! AMY went and did that too! And Amy NEVER steals

“at least Cosby knocked his victims out b4 he raped them.”

This is tasteless and I don’t care for it. My infant daughters saw that image and now they’re all screaming in unison. Thanks, Deadspin.
