All the engineers and technicians designing and building the hardware are paid on Earth, feed families here, etc. The technological developments spread to other industries, bringing new materials, better solar energy, better batteries, better medical technology.

To audiences in the 70's who had never seen anything like that before, what with the “subliminal” images of the demon and all, it was terrifying.  Today, we are numbed to horror and terror.  That’s what’s really scary, that we are just numb to most forms of horror.

I still appreciate Mel Gibson’s acting ability in  his vast portfolio of classic and entertaining movies. As a human he’s pure filth but I don’t let that get in the way of a good Lethal Weapon marathon.

I mean, maybe if the implication was that the aliens in Signs were planning to use humans as a bio-weapon, but we learn no such thing.

I never understood the complaint of “the aliens are stealing humans even though they are allergic to water. Humans are made of water!
