It’s not one or the other. Aside from them both being small and RWD, the Miata and S2k really don’t have much in common.

That’s a great way to summarize this great car.
That is absolutely true. Every time I was away from my S2k for a few weeks in the winter and then I would sit back down in it to drive it again, it was always a moment of, “Ahhhhh....” The car just feels absolutely perfect. I can’t imagine a better driver position than that car.
Great point.
The master cylinder failed on mine, but other than that, the car was perfect — and I took mine up to redline routinely. I’ve never had more confidence in a car than the S2k.
This shouldn’t even be close — the S2k is better in literally every way.
Exactly. It’s not all about torque and horsepower numbers and being loud.
I don’t believe it was faster than the NSX — particularly later NSX cars. My 1995 NSX was rated as a 5.5 second 0-60 car; my S2k was rated at 5.7 seconds. NSX’s got faster as the years went on, but S2k’s did not.
I have a 1995 NSX, and I owned a 2001 S2k before it was totaled by hail. For pure fun, the S2k is better.
It’s not a 7,800 redline in the AP2; it’s 8,200. The writer got it wrong.
Jesus — someone actually claims that an S2k drives like a Porsche? Wtf?
It’s front-mid engined, not true front-engined.
All of those cars look like shit in yellow, although the Subaru would look like shit in any color. The S2000 is great in yellow.
I don’t even know what the hell that means.
No — even AN OWNER that you know thinks it’s a pain to drive daily. Don’t assume that one guy you know speaks for everyone.
That’s a meathead mentality. Cars aren’t just about torque. The S2000 has so many redeeming qualities that a lack of torque makes absolutely no difference. That car is perfect the way it is.
“We can all agree that there’s an inverse relationship between how interesting a car is and how reliable it is.”
By all means, brother, I hope your good experience continues with your car. There certainly are exceptions to every rule. For instance, I once gave my wife an orgasm (I think???) but that doesn’t mean I’ve ever done it before or will ever be doing it again.
Can we please stop acting like the interiors of Cadillac competitors are so much better?
I agree. Cadillac is not going to beat the Germans or the Japanese by being conservative.
