Also that was Vahgar that fell on the army crushing people. The dragon just got back up moments later.

Yeah I think decades of peace is like claiming the US didn’t go to war with anyone between 1899 and 1917. Technically yes nobody officially declared war in this timeframe, but there was minor interventions in South America and later Mexico that were fairly violent.
Her inevitable death is not in vain, though; her dragon explodes on impact with the ground, wiping out almost the entirety of Criston’s ill gotten army.
They’re writing for the actors now, and throwing in a lot of fanservice. There’s a reason we’re seeing a lot of Aemond swooshing around and being filmed in profile. He’s also being characterized in a way that suits the performance but isn’t in the book. Same for Aegon. Tom G-C is doing a great job of playing Aegon as…
Those poor dragons. All that crying and shrieking as they’re forced to fight, terrible. Dragons should be free and loved.
I think that the “eighty years of peace” only refers to Westeros itself. Shit was pretty much constantly going down in the Stepstones/East, and as we saw in Season One the dragons were very much active there.
I suspect that when GRRM decided to pull the trigger on that joke, he never in a thousand years suspected they would have to call actors in a full goddamn HBO prestige drama those names. It’s sort of like when Games Workshop named a bunch of throw away background character stupid nonsense, and then a decade later…
Loved the battle so much. And am so glad that Jace and Aemond have more things to do now. Daemon is also finally interesting to me!
Normally I question the necessity of some of his in-jokes, especially for insignificant footnote characters or houses. That said, when I read that House Wyl of Not Appearing In A Song Of Ice And Fire was given a black adder as a sigil I did appreciate the shout-out to my favorite British comedy.
Now, anyone who’s read Fire & Blood will already know that this oh-so-astute healer plays an important role in events to come.
It’s a real name that long predates the Muppet character, and Jim Henson even had a childhood friend with it, though he insisted to his dying day that the character wasn’t named after him.
Yeah the show wasn’t correct. I could be wrong but I think Vhaegar is the only dragon who has seen prior war*, which is part of the built-in danger of someone like Aemond riding her. But I’m somewhat sure Meleys and Rhaenys never fought before.
yeah maybe she fought overseas like Daemon.
Yah, when he finally turns around it is Daemon himself looking back (Matt Smith gone and flat ironed that wig of his)
Oh Aemond absolutely knew what he was doing with that timing. And we all know why he was standing there with his sword out when Cole found him next to Aegon.
I don’t think the reasoning is anything other than GRRM having a bit of fun while naming a few of hundreds, if not thousands, of characters in his books and lore.
I mean he was about to do just that in last week’s episode before Larys talked him out of it. Surely everyone in court knows he’s rash and headstrong and his Hand should know that too. I can’t help but think Otto would have kept Aegon under control if he wasn’t removed from his position.
When he [Daemon] chases down a spectre of Aemond to do the same to him...
Didn’t we watch Daemon win a war against someone or other last season? I think “80 years of peace” doesn’t count the odd skirmish or bit of territorial expansion.
I’ve had my complaints about this show but that was a great episode from start to finish.
