Shows are planned (most of the time) about 2 years in advance. And no, it’s not common to cancel or postpone them on short notice without something else to fill the space in your calendar, which takes more than a few months to pull together. (And no, I don’t work there but I do work at a museum)

I was disappointed that during the last article no one seems to have brought up Coco Fusco and what she wrote, as if a titan of the art world like herself, someone who laid the groundwork for institutional critiques, isn’t worth mentioning at all. Damn shame that a great artists voice is ignored when I bet most

That is the single dumbest thing you’ve written on this article.

You are reaching. These artists aren’t anti-black, they are anti the censorship of another artist’s work.

Good for them.

I generally empathized with the protest over the Emmett Till piece at the Whitney, and I thought Schutz’s response was weak as hell and full of privilege and entitlement.

There are some incredibly famous artists who are not at all white on that list, so you might want to brush up on your who’s who in the art world.

If you want to die on the hill of whether cancelling an entire show, which presumably has more than one piece, based on the subject of one painting constitutes a banning be my guest. My guess is that an artist whose had an entire show cancelled under pressure from other artists, probably won’t have the opportunity to

Two: Kara Walker and Dread Scott

I found 4 person of color. I can’t say for sure that there are any more than that without spending the rest of the evening googling for pictures that may not exist, but at least 4.

Name me three black painters who had their work met with actual protests and calls to be blacklisted (pun not intended).

Here, I’ll make it easy and give you a freebie:

Chris Ofili, a member of the Young British Artists movement whose mixed-media piece The Holy Virgin Mary was met with protests and condemnation by

It’s Kara Walker, and she’s not the only person on the list. Dread Scott, Barbara Takenaga, and Roberto Juarez are also there. There might be others, but I’m not in the mood to google 80 artists to find their pictures online.

Protest away. Just know that the art still gets to be shown.

Oh so a temporary ban?

78 Famed Artists Including Kara Walker, Cindy Sherman, and Marina Abramovic Condemn the Dana Schutz Protest

It’s definitely “a bit much” considering the damn painting at the center of the controversy isn’t even going to be, and for that matter never was going to be, on display at this show.

Dana Schultz is white and there are people of color among the list of people wanting Schultz’s art banned.

Art’s meant to have a point but it doesn’t have to be controversial.

I agree he’s gross but unless there’s evidence he’s a child predator I somewhat disfavor leg breaking although it does remind me of a charming story from my childhood...

I would totally vote for Miranda Hobbs, but Cynthia Nixon is actually a pretty good candidate in her own right. She’s an education activist and has been involved in NYC politics for a long time. Plus, pretty much anyone is better than Cuomo.
