Hmm. Actually, now this comment has me wondering how much it is trying to fit yourself to another person’s eating schedule. I am also a grazer, and my SO and I are constantly trying to negotiate that, because it seems dumb for us to eat separately, but he also wants to eat three meals a day while I want to have small

Well the real question is what made us want to pretend they were likable? I think we still love to watch unlikable people (Arrested Development, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 30 Rock to a degree, Archer), but the shows acknowledge that they are shitty people now. Which is what makes it so off-putting to watch a show

Yeah, I’m not worried that people will, like, think I kidnapped my kids or that I won’t feel connected to them. I just feel like it’s silly that the assumption is that I will have the different last name and they’ll get my husband’s name, since the same holds true for him; he’ll be fine if he has a different last name

Right? I hate it when people say, “I’m doing X because of Y bad thing about myself.” Well if you know that, FIX IT! It’s fine to say, “When I did X [a long time ago], it was because of Y bad thing about myself that I have since worked on,” but in the moment, you have to change your behavior when you realize it’s bad.

Is he maybe dead?

I absolutely agree with you...but why can’t my husband be the one to have a different last name, rather than me?

I posted this elsewhere, but as far as I know (and I am happy to be corrected on this, as I only know from work in universities, not from a job as a legal expert), public university faculty are limited in terms of freedom of speech due to the recognition that 1. they are educators and 2. they work in an institution.

Public universities don’t operate exclusively as government entities though. Faculty at public universities can’t say whatever the hell they want with immunity.

I am frankly astounded that Timberlake is actually Justin’s last name. I always assumed he changed it because it is such a sweet name. I would have figured that the solution to being Justin’s brother would be to keep you original last name. I am flabbergasted to discover that the opposite is true.

But it doesn’t protect you from all consequences, merely from those issued by the government. If I tell my boss he is a flaming sack of shit, he can fire me. I am not protected from those consequences of my speech.

Citing “freedom of speech” when you have to face consequences for the things you say is. Freedom of speech does not mean that you can say whatever the fuck you want at any time, and no one can disagree with you or decide that they don’t want to associate with you based on it.

Oof, I came in all ready to be outraged based on the headline, but...

Did you mean to reply to me with this? I absolutely agree with you, I just wasn’t sure if you meant to be contradicting someone who said they weren’t oppressive. Maybe I am misreading your tone though!

But you were totally right and very informative! And I should have included all the facts in my original post.

What...are they doing?

If anything, I have raised the level of discourse from the nonsense you were spewing.

Yeah, I was going light on the rest of it just to get to the fun bit of the fact. And because the English and French have never gotten along, so saying they did made me giggle. Like, even now, they don’t reeeally like each other in a social sense, although they are not fighting. But yes, you are correct! I should have

DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY WE HAVE THE DIFFERENT NAMES?

I mean, I don’t want the school too and am glad they didn’t, but I am also pretty astounded that they didn’t. With all the body policing of young women that schools do, it is pretty fucking shocking that they didn’t have a problem with it.

I’m sorry for my knee jerk defensive response. For what it’s worth, I struggled a lot with my schedule when I started out, but I wouldn’t say that I was coasting...I was doing the same amount of work, just not structuring it well or healthily. I think everyone eventually has to figure that out, but there is a little
