That’s what we, in the vernacular, call a hypothetical.

And the Klan’s rights to speech and assembly have been adjudicated. The courts ruled that they have the right... over and over again.

I agree with you 100%. I think an amendment would be a great idea. The question you posed was whether or not advocating for freedom of speech was white privilege. I think FireroseNekowolf made a compelling case in the comments above that freedom of speech needs to be protected. I don’t necessarily agree with him, but

It is as long as it passes the Brandenburg test.

“Hate or dangerous speech, despite the chorus of idiots constantly declaring the opposite, is not protected by the 1st amendment (see Schenck v. US 1919)“

Doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do though, either. You don’t have to be a fascist government, or an authoritarian one, to still do things that are ethically or morally questionable.

“Charles Manson never picked up a knife. Speech absolutely can lead to violence. Saying, “We’ll allow people to organize and fan the flames of violence, but don’t you worry, if they kill your child, we’ll look for them,” is wrong.”

Germany tried to arrest and prosecute a stand-up comedian for making jokes about the Turkish PM.

Wait... so the plan is to have the government restrict speech we don’t like, which is effectively handing a right-wing government a rope with which they can strangle us. And then, when they do the incredibly obvious thing and strangle us by using the very precedents we called for against us, our plan is to start a

You’re correct, I cannot prove a negative (even though most of the counter-protesters were white *shrugs*)

I’d love to shut down all these motherfuckers, but the courts have repeatedly ruled that they have the right to speak and assemble.

“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”

“If the Trump regime labels resistance as “hate speech,” you’re gonna see some shit”

I’m “only” half-white, so take what I say as half-privilege or something. But while I don’t think we should ignore these Nazis, I also think we’re sort of giving them what they want. They want a fight. They want to be seen as dangerous. And, quite frankly, that in and of itself attracts a certain kind of disillusioned

And arrest everyone as soon as they break the law. Everyone fighting or committing violence should be immediately arrested at a protest. Speech is not violence. You can’t physically injure anyone with words. Unless your words are “we are going to kill these specific people right now” then it pretty much falls under

“Americans are supposed to be brave. What happened to us? Why are we afraid to do a little work?”

Think this one through. With the current government, what do you think will they label hate speech? Are you comfortable with each party deciding every 4 to 8 years who the baddies are and changing it to suit their political means?

Wow...

Do you trust the current government to accurately determine what constitutes hate speech? If not, the slippery slope argument is completely valid.

Also as a white guy: doesn’t matter. The Constitution is there to protect the unpopular. That is its purpose. To protect from power.
