That always made me sad, that the Navy retired the Vikings. I can't put my finger on it, but even as a kid, I was absolutely in love with this plane. Between the S-3, and the F-14...the walls of my room (OK, maybe an F/A-18 snuck in there as well) were 100% wallpapered with my little ode to Naval Aviation.

Totally agree, it's awesome! Especially if you happen to be into diving or the ocean. It's a really amazing and immersive experience (made for the Oculus, too, if you have a dev kit)!

Generally speaking, the more theatrical the crash the less likely it is that there will be serious injuries, as the kinetic energy is being dissipated over a longer duration. Coming to a halt abruptly is what hurts the most.
