We had a Rav4 which came with studded tires which worked great for us and didn’t break the bank! Make sure you bring a credit or debit card with a pin number for gas stops. Without it you have to go in and pay which is just kind of annoying. 

Can confirm.....I live in MN and my 2015 Jetta TDI sits outside all the time. It started like a champ up to about -20F. At -30F there was a slightly longer glow plug delay (~5-10 seconds) and it was pretty unhappy for the first 5 seconds of running but it started up first try! I am actually very impressed.
