I think the problem all along with Nolan is that all of these movies have been covered to death online and none of them are particularly bad which makes it harder for them to talk about while also being funny. I think that is why they originally wanted to do Bay and are threatening to do all of Burton after Bigelow.

You're close but his 3 roles before the Departed were Catch Me If You Can, Gangs of NY and the Aviator. I do remember even when Departed came out there was still some stigma hanging around though. Which is a shame bc Titanic rules, even if he isn't exactly great in it.

Fwiw he's said that the follow up book he's got coming out is going to have more "week night"/less labor intensive recipes. I also adore TFL but that book is not something great for whipping out on an afternoon looking for something to make on a whim.

DC is an absolute hell hole but his unwavering belief that the peak of culture is some chintzy golf club in fucking Florida remains adorable. Reading that quote you just know he was trying to impress some asshole who owns a car dealership in Palm Springs.

Granted I've never read any of the DT books but I saw the trailer in theaters the other week and just going off that there may be larger issues than the run time…

Ugh, superhero movies are so bland and cookie cutter these days. At least here we have…
-skims list-
… 50% "based on actual events" or historical biopics!

The War of the Worlds episode today may be the funniest of the Spielberg eps for me so far. Especially all the nerding out at JD's lens talk. Rewatched WOTW over the weekend and it's pretty fine. The first act is a really great movie and it really trails off from there but still solid overall.

No you're thinking of The Young Pope

Under the Dome taking place when Obama is president and yet everyone in this town, regardless of age, is seemingly obsessed with a 20+ year old James McMurtry song. Because, you know, the entire novels thesis is adapted from that damn song.

Read Night Shift for the first time last summer and fucking Beach World man.

The low-light of the season was trying to stream the replay Everton beating Arsenal back in December (had to work during the game) and come halftime the app just kept looping that fucking Chevy commercial endlessly instead of finishing the game. After the 6-7th time I was ready to rip my TV off the wall.

I'm a Red Sox fan that had absolutely no connection and 5+ years later just seeing Galarraga's name makes me see red. What a bullshit call

As someone who only follows soccer and baseball I feel like the appeal is everything that goes into the actual scoring. Both sports are like watching paint dry if you don't know what you are watching but once you can appreciate the subtleties both can be a blast.

Could he do an even passable Clinton? Because based on this first season I would love to see that for season 3.

I'm just wondering have you watched the show? Murphy is barely involved and I wouldn't say the show is really distasteful at all. I would trust Hemingway could make it at least as tasteful as Treme.

Mainstream rap belongs to Drake and Future and at this point it seems absurd to even argue that point. If you think both suck that's fine (your loss tho because Future has spent over a year on an all time great tier run of tapes and albums).

There are so many hacky ways you could have ended the napkin subplot which made it so unexpectedly sweet when the payoff was Bob's happiness and love for Linda. Great stuff.

And most of that joke seems to be Bobby Finger thinking no one that saw Carol would possibly also read Deadspin.

I can't say I'm shocked but man of course almost all the misconduct MF admits to on the tapes wound up being bullshit. Everything about him 'consulting" for McKinny just comes off as so pathetic
