i thought she was fantastic in joy. the histrionics of her performances in the other russell movies were dialed down and she felt far less soap opera. it's a shame that fewer people saw it.

i wouldn't even mind if they let joan choose to be work-driven & dealt with that somehow, let her show an increasing interest in developing her skills on her off hours, annoying her family because she's trying to spot their tells & point out when they're lying, admitting that she has no interest in people who aren't…
jlm has had several scenes that could have been better if he'd just dialed down the emoting. they're an interesting pair.
without cases, they have roughly 9 full hours in a season to split storylines for the main cast + the guest of the year. if they gave marcus even 1 of those hours, that would equal 3 sideplots. i don't see why those 3 couldn't be the continuing story of his relationship. also she's already connected to their work. she…
sigh seconded. she was very cute. and it'd be nice to see marcus happy.
i really liked gregson's daughter. not because she was likable, but i found her interesting, much like detective cortes who i also really want to see again. and i liked how her attempt to screw joan over led to a lovely moment between joan & gregson.
that is weird. maybe the reviewer had to bow out and they couldn't find a replacement.
i disagree completely. ophelia gave an amazingly nuanced performance. natalie just hammed it up. and i can't objectively judge rhys. mycroft's plot was so poorly written they couldn't even decide who they wanted him to be for 3/4 of his appearances.
he's also done remarkable things with actually stellar writing. i don't know if anyone has said lucy has been given even close to the same amount of opportunities to showcase her talent.
that's the most passable title they could possibly have chosen! no wonder i forgot it!
she doesn't have *that* much say in the show. this season, she's commented on how she wants them to explore joan's personal life outside of sherlock because it would allow the character more range. meanwhile the showrunner has said he has no intention of doing that. i agree that her acting choices can get a little…
loving the concept of "schrodinger's watson". it really nails my issues with their treatment of her character. she's all things at all times and also none of them, until she's directly confronted, then she quickly goes back to being both & neither simultaneously.
there was a movie about tina fey being an admissions person at a college and she fell for paul rudd, who was a teacher from an alternate high school or something? i was rooting for it so hard, but the script was like unseasoned eggs.
people set out to make mediocre movies every day. many, many writers and directors have no interest in pushing the envelope and show up primarily to get paid. possibly to have fun, too. but they're not motivated to make a genuinely good product.
the only reason i remember now you see me is the twist about ruffalo made me actually angry because it made so little sense
i disagree, somewhat, but i think you touched on an issue with a lot of tv hype. a lot of critically acclaimed shows were good in the beginning and then coasted on that previous quality level to become passable (or worse) for the rest of their run.
seriously, like there weren't people in hollywood creating for a paycheck back then.
and elementary's jon michael hill was nominated for an emmy because of that play
why depressing?
i agree about joan's takedown. that was pretty epic. unfortunately it gave me really high expectations, which were dashed the next time they met. moriarty just talked about how much she and sherlock are suited for each other and how joan's too basic to hold his interest for long.
