I got Perkins loans and maximum Pell grants while in college, so I was definitely one of the poors. I also do not find it offensive.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Our orange cat died in the fall and my wife made us go out to get a new orange cat ASAP because orange kitties are the best. Our new little orange guy is the sweetest, silliest little cat ever.
Orange cats are the best! Our orange cat died last fall and my wife insisted we had to get another orange cat ASAP because she thinks orange cats are superior to all other cats. The new little guy we have is the sweetest, silliest cat ever. He just wants all the attention all the time.
I came out in high school in the late 90s and I just can't believe how far we've come. I know we still have a long way to go, but we've made more progress way more quickly than I would have ever imagined. I manage a restaurant and have some teenage workers and I've told some of them about my experiences coming out…
What did you end up having, if you don't mind me asking? I also was put in a cast for a possible stress fracture and had a million different diagnoses from a bunch of different doctors. I finally had an orthopedic surgeon say, "well, it doesn't look like a bunion, but everything else has been tried, so let's try…
I used to work on a touristy island and would get stuff like that all the time. We were right on the waterfront at the store I was working at and people would come in and say, "where's the beach?" I also loved the people who would ask if the breakwalls went down to the ocean floor. No, the rocks are floating, you…
That is strange. I assumed they would all be like mine. I would hate having to go to the doctor to turn it on and off. I have to charge mine about once a week (there's a charging unit that has a paddle and I put the paddle over the battery implant and it charges through my skin). I will eventually have to have the…
Yeah, I have my own remote. I can't program it myself— I have to see a representative from the medical device manufacturer to reprogram it, but he made a good number of programs for me and I can choose the program, turn it up or down, turn it off and on. I only use one program and keep it around the same level. I…
I have a neurostimulator, too! Electric doors haven't bothered me (well, I haven't gone through too many of them since I got my implant in January, but I haven't noticed it when I have gone through the few I have encountered). I can't go through metal detectors, though. I even have a little card that I have to…
Oh, wow, I didn't see this comment when I asked what yours was for on the other comment. Now I see what yours is for. I have to turn mine off when I lie down because it goes so crazy with the stimulation when my spine is compressed in any way (mine's implanted by my spinal cord for pain management).
You have one, too? I've never met anyone else with one. What's yours for, if you don't mind me asking? I have CRPS affecting my right foot, so it makes walking really hard. I just had my neurostimulator put in in January. It's okay, I guess. Not a fix, but I knew it wouldn't be. More like a $116,000 band-aid.
I don't know all the details of this particular device, but it sounds very similar to neurostimulators. I have a neurostimulator and neurostims have been in use for many years. They are generally used for pain management when all other options have been exhausted, but they are also sometimes used for epilepsy and…
I was coming here to say that, too. I have a neurostimulator implanted in my spine to help my pain from CRPS more tolerable. It's not a fun surgery and the recovery is rough, but if you are desperate enough, it's a good option.
I'm so sorry you are going through this. It must be so scary. I'm hoping for the best for you and sending good thoughts your way.
Also, when I was 14 or so, I was at the hospital with my dad. The doctor asked me when my last period was. I was very embarrassed about that subject around my dad, so I wouldn't say anything (silly, I know, but I was mortified). She asked my dad to leave the room for a few minutes because she was worried I wasn't…
Exactly. Straight people don't realize that happens all the time because it's an innocuous question to them. I always get asked at work if I'm married and they almost always ask what my husband does after I tell them yes, I'm married. Every time, I say, "my wife, actually" and then tell her what she does. …
I had a kitty that made it to 21 or so. He was in relatively good shape until the last few days of his life. I still miss the little guy, even though he has been gone for 12 years at this point. I hope all my current kitties make it that long.
I wish I got that bag! I hate the pinks! Orange and red are the best.
In my psychology class in high school (so this would have been back in '98 or so), the teacher had us all try holding our breaths for a minute. I have no idea how true it is, but she told us that people who could hold their breaths for a minute had an easier time quitting smoking than those who were unable to. I…
I admit, I remember her cousin was named Lisa, but I couldn't remember Lisa's partner's name, so I just made up a name. I felt like it might have been Dawn or Donna, but I really wasn't sure.
