maybe people read the book because it was good and not because a studio owned the film rights to it?”

That show (well, the first season; I missed the second) was excellent, and I don’t understand why more people don’t talk about it.

I can see that. I had a similar discussion with someone about Encanto; she was disappointed there was no explanation of where the house or the powers came from, but that didn’t bother me because that’s an element of the genre. There sure as heck no explanation in 100 Years of Solitude, which the movie borrowed heavily

Tremor Christ is possibly my favorite of all their songs.

I wasn’t that interested in the mystery box aspect, just how the characters were affected by it, and I don’t think we need an explanation of how the machine works. Some shows do need that, but this felt more like magical realism to me, where a detailed explanation of what’s going on is not at all the point.

He was easily the most watchable part of that movie.

Right; like Dirtside wrote above, it would be nearly impossible to craft this “protection” in any coherent way.  Let’s save our efforts for behavior that causes meaningful harm.

I am super excited* about this; it’s one of my favorite books.

It’s not enough to show that it’s false advertisement, though; the plaintiffs (and any future plaintiffs in a future suit) have to also show that they were harmed. Aside from the price of the rental/ticket, in the vast majority of cases it’s gonna be hard to show any actual harm. This makes it different than, say,

One of my favorite recurring bits on that show was how much Crane despised Franklin, and never missed an opportunity to insult him.

I know; I was so excited that book coverage might be back!

His willingness to not take himself too seriously and to take oddball/dorky roles make him far more interesting to me than the usual Hollywood star. I’m (very) cautiously optimistic about this.

I can’t tell you how many times I watched Gleaming the Cube because of Christian Slater.

Earthsea had a major impact on me, and I’m still pissed that it was bungled so badly by the SciFi Channel.

Enemy Mine is the very first thing that pops into my head when I hear his name. It was so good*, why isn’t it more well-known?

Oh hey, I forgot I wanted to watch this. Mea culpa, Mandy.

God help me, I want to watch this.

It’s shocking how bad the writing has gotten lately.

It’s no Jackie Daytona from Arizonia.

I’m so pleased Netflix picked it up; I’ve been longing to see this show but I could justify yet another subscription.
