I haven’t read the book in 30 years and so don’t have a great basis for comparison, but thought the new films told a fairly complex story in an uncluttered (and entertaining) way. From what I remember the original seemed more kitschy, but that is probably due to the difference in available effects.

Anything that could be salvaged from the original production would suffer badly by comparison to Villenueve’s version, so I don’t see how there’s the first bit of incentive for Lynch to even attempt it.

Sounds like it was near Waterworld-level degree of difficulty, having to film so much only looking over open ocean.  I think the cost is just prohibitive relative to the box office you could expect.

Possibly the happiest day of my life was sitting at the dinner table and my dad looking up to say “it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if we never had cauliflower again.”  I couldn’t believe my ears.  And yes, it was usually steamed.  Absolutely horrible.

Yeah they haven’t all been like that. I sold one car to a guy who owned a Chinese restaurant and he showed up at my house with $8,000 cash in a bag, which he counted out on my dining room table (and yes I know it was dumb to do it at home, I was young).  I’d love to see that guy’s tax returns.

That stretch always has been, mostly people who owned homes and rented them when not in personal use, but with the advent of online rental platforms it’s become a zoo (and house/condo prices have tripled). It’s a cool spot and a lot of fun, but crowded as hell during high seasons.
