Not entirely unfair, but I will say he’s capital-F Fantastic in Bull Durham.  Granted that was also a long time ago.

I think Open Range had middling box office success but has since become pretty broadly admired, so my guess is while he wants it to make money, it’s as much about telling a story he likes.

Ha, I’ll take your word for it.  I’ve never had much interest in revisiting Ali.  It was fine.

Whenever they go visit Bobby they have to leave early so they get there before the gangs wake up.

I don’t think it diminishes the quality of previous works, but that kind of disappointment can definitely affect your general attitude about them. Using lit flower’s Star Wars example, yes I still love the OT but in general thinking about Star Wars writ large it’s much more of a shrug.

Problem with the Matrix trilogy as comparison is that the two sequels made everyone question whether the Wachowskis just got lucky the first time, and didn’t really know what they were doing. KOTH ran for more than 250 episodes, most of them excellent. So there’s not much risk of tarnishing the original, especially

It’s been a while since I saw Ali, but didn’t it focus primarily on the buildup to his fight with Foreman in Zaire?

I was honestly shocked to read that, given its lasting imprint.

And boxed wine.  Sigh.

I’m more surprised to learn how short its run was.  For a show that still carries pop culture relevance that is not many episodes.

“The kid from ET?” You mean Henry Thomas? C’mon, man!

I was wondering the same thing. I don’t think she called the police and so it’s likely no one ever asked for the footage.  Otherwise, if L&O has taught me anything, there would be exposure for hindering an investigation (thanks Ice-T!)

Great, now you’re going to have me looking over my shoulder.

I learned what “cri de coeur” means, after looking it up.

My approach would be to let anyone post until there was a complaint, then start blocking IP addresses to avoid repeat trolls.  But of course that would require at least a few human moderators.

Yeah he isn’t shy about backing up his takes, which is the way it should be.  Anyway, fingers crossed.  From what he said on one of his replies, the editors at Paste have a appreciation for what originally made AVC a great site.

Never too much.
