Don’t be afraid to stark skimming during the sections that read like instruction manuals or natural science texts. You’re not going to miss some important detail stashed in there like an Easter egg.

Of course the real joke is that the typical service worker would last about 15 minutes before someone dropped a citizen’s firing on them.  I’ve seen people go nuts on employees who were trying to be helpful and taking heaps of abuse over things that weren’t their faults.  Firings would be the new “get your manager.”

I used to enjoy Sedaris, but really haven’t gotten much out of his recent works other than he’s just very cranky.  Bitterness without humor doesn’t make for a very compelling read.

Yeah, I always just assumed it was a face-value joke about being rich but not content, and Larson used cows because he likes to do that sometimes.

I expect that happened to me more with Far Side than every other strip put together.

I think this was the first Far Side comic I saw, and was instantly a fan for life. Larson distilled absurdist humor down to its bare essence.
