Now if only we could pass ENDA so those same people could actually TELL THEIR EMPLOYERS that they're in same-sex relationships without being immediately (and legally fired.)

Um...I'm sorry are you high? Marriage cannot be decided on state by state because it creates separate classes of people, as evidenced by the article. If we had waited to legalize interracial marriage state by state, it would still be illegal in several states.

And, if we're REALLY lucky, her crazy ass can single handedly bring back polio! Don't you all miss polio?

1) I hate to buy into stereotypes like this, but there is NO way that the man in that picture is not into dudes. I say this as a dude who is into dudes, so everybody be cool. All I'm saying is I would not be surprised to run into him at a gay club doing some "outreach."

This is ridiculous on so many levels.

Calls 'em like I sees 'em. There's no agency involved in sweat shops being installed in your country by self-interested elites, replacing local ways of life, nor is there any agency involved in the myriad CIA backed coups of sovereign Latin American governments throughout the 70's and 80's. That's precisely my point.

I have to disagree. Not with your distinction, just with the phrase "the point of immigration." Immigration is not a process that states invented to import workers. Immigration is something humans have been doing for millennia. We move. And we should be allowed to move. Especially, I would argue, in a world

Men don't have to be skinny to be people in our society, which is why this whole thing is the hottest of messes.

I love Spanish food, I just don't actually see any of it present in this article.

I hate to nitpick here, but about 1.5 of the foods mentioned in this article are "Spanish." Argentine is not Spanish. Venezuelan is not Spanish. Empanadas? Are not Spanish. Empanada exists, but it's not what you're thinking of. Spanish is Spanish. Maybe Hispanic? That encompasses the whole Spanish speaking

Ugh I am SO sick of this "gay best friend" trope, and I'm even sicker of gay men embracing it. If you want to be my friend, be my friend. If I'm gay, great. But don't just assume that we're going to go shopping and I'll paint your nails and accessorize your purse. I MIGHT do those things. I might not. GBFs are

I live in New Orleans. I've never NOT had to do that ;)

Seriously? Come on people. It's a cute, dumb, video made by some adults and a kid, which ends on the message "be nice to women, be nice to everyone." I you want to problematize every line of anything, you totally can, but I guarantee it's not gonna be that fulfilling, and I guarantee you're not going to find

I guess I disagree with you about needing to celebrate her. I think we do. I don't think young woman on an equal enough playing field yet for us to treat things like this as ordinary, regardless of privilege. I agree with you that we should acknowledge her privilege and the circumstances that allowed her to get

I think it's pretty problematic to fault a 15 year old girl who is clearly trying to do a lot of good for situations beyond her control. Especially when her educational aspirations involve getting a lot more women interested in science in math. Touting this girl's success and working hard for that of others are not
