I just tested, and you can put a swipe gesture on an app in a folder in Nova launcher, and use that to trigger a popup widget for ANY app, not just the one you have an icon for. Works well with swipe to access Tasker Widgets too

You can do the same stuff in any launcher with Popup widgets.

Correction: Autoremote works from the web to Tasker, or Tasker to Tasker on another phone. it does not use SMS, but rather googles Push notification service. But it is awesomely clever.
