I don’t think this nullifies the effects of the fakeout, it redefines it. It still affects the characters, and it doesn’t take anything out of the impact of the moment when you first watched it.

I really don’t understand the people who are looking at Sanders and Warren, and going “yeah, obviously I’m going to pick the 85 year old white dude with the heart condition and the possible misogyny” when a smart woman with basically no downsides and almost identical policies is sitting right there.

I liked this movie for being about a devastating plague that isn’t civilization-destroying - like a modern version of the 1918 Flu epidemic. Showing what a massive medical disaster would look like without spilling over into apocalyptic cinema.
