The actual creators of the format have spoken out saying that they pronounce it "Jiff", and at the time (I think it was the Oxford People) even backed them up saying that the word SPELLED "Gif" should be pronounced "JIFF" as in "giraffe" Gizmodo even ran an article to this effect, BUT THEY WHERE ALL WRONG!

I used to LOVE making GIF's specifically for the Gizmodo Comments, but with this new format you cannot upload a file, and I have no online hosting.

The trick here really is the tiny preview windows which hide all the terrible image quality - and total lack of any actual focus at almost any depth.
