If it’s connected to the web, someone else can control it. If it’s connected to surveillance equipment, someone can watch you. And from what one in five news articles tell me, if you’re a student, celebrity, or political activist, someone’s probably doing it or attempting it right now.

“Why can’t this guy be king?”

I wondered how they would keep steam behind the whole endeavor, and pushing “Real Eleanor” and the evil support team further into the foreground with their own personal angst and contrary goals works really well.

Some of them just didn’t read the paperwork.

Not sure why this is getting so many upvotes. Maybe the problem is that this is “our shit” and The Root has shown a very porous boundary now that it’s part of Gawker and has invited all sorts of whiteness and particularly white femaleness into the discussion that frankly doesn’t belong. But it’s still “our shit” and

Everybody, this is why it’s so hard to reach some white people. 100 articles about the suppression of minority votes, shutting down voting booths in black districts, and roll purges and white people run out with, “Well, your ballots didn’t get counted, guess you’re the real problem!”

That episode with Stan seeking Token’s approval is literally him not understanding why Token is pissed that his dad used the n-word. The episode ends with white Senators passing a law that makes it illegal to use words that call white people racist (while black people in the Senate shout indignantly) but also ends

“We president now!”

I mean, Christianity can make it worse, but Christianity can make it better. I spend less time worrying about how white Christians reconcile their bullshit than how white people reconcile their bullshit.

The problem with American exceptionalism is we don’t realize when every other Western Nation gets there 40 years earlier because we pretend like everyone is less evolved than us.

Ironically, foreign car manufacturers have to abide by their native union rules. So BMW can’t go into Michigan and then remove union protections. They have to apply German protections to American workers. Same with Toyota and Honda, et al.
